Rumor: Hitman Dev Axes Staff, Kills Project [UPDATED]
Sources suggest that Hitman 5 may have been bumped off before information technology was even formally announced.
Accordant to rumors, Hitman developer IO Interactive has been forced to stop a number of staff members, and set off a project it was working along. The rumor seems to have started on the Twitter account of 3D Realms co-owner George Broussard.
Broussard wrote "Layoffs at Io Interactive (Kane&Lynch/Torpedo). As many as 35, and a project cancelled. – Tis' the season," equiprobable referring to the recent news show of "seasonal layoffs" at Ea. Broussard makes no mention of where he heard this information and doesn't pronounce anything else about it, and doesn't expand on his statement at all. If the rumors are true, information technology will be the second time that IO has had to let staff go on this year. Back up in March, certain "organizational changes" forced the studio to shed an unspecified amoun of staff members. Around a month later, Square Enix Europe emboss Phil Rogers aforementioned that the cuts had been break u of cost-cutting measures, and patc there wasn't anything connected the horizon at that metre, he couldn't rule prohibited further cuts in the future.
Too troubling is Broussard's trace that a project had been off, as the only visualise that Io was thought to be currently practical on was Hitman 5. IO fresh downplayed comments from Gun for hire voice actor David Bateson, who provides the voice for lead character Agent 47, who suggested that a sequel was on the room, merely it's not alone enlighten why. It could be because the propose has been off, but it's also possible it never existed, or that IO just wanted to keep a tighter grip on when and how information most it gets out.
Of course, without administrative unit confirmation, all we can do is hypothesize. We've contacted IO for point out and will update if/when the studio gets rearwards to us.
UPDATE: IO has just confirmed the layoffs to Kotaku, again claiming that are an pitiable fallout of recent intrinsical re-organization. It's thought that slow sales of Kane &A; Lynch 2: Dog Years, and other, earlier titles, is to blame. IO has sooner or later to comment on the rumor that a propose has been cancelled.
